Replacement integrated fridge freezer hinge – compatible with AEG, Electrolux, Küppersbusch and Smeg appliances as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your fridge freezer model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

This genuine integrated fridge freezer hinge is identical to the original part fitted at the factory, so it restores the door action of a built-in appliance exactly as it was designed to work.

Built to the manufacturer's specifications with the same mounting points, pivot geometry, and load-bearing strength, it restores a dropped, stiff, or noisy door to smooth, correctly aligned operation without modification or adaptation.

Integrated appliances conceal their hinges behind the furniture door, so the hinge carries both the appliance door and the cabinet front. The design is shared across several AEG, Electrolux, Küppersbusch, and Smeg built-in models, but mounting patterns and handedness vary between ranges, so confirm the model reference before ordering.

This hinge will only fit the models as shown or as specifically advised and will not fit any others. Please check your model number carefully against the compatibility list before ordering.

Important

Replace these hinges as a pair, not individually; if one has failed, the other will likely be worn and may have failed, though perhaps not obviously. Replacing only one can strain the new hinge, causing premature wear and failure.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Integrated fridge freezer door hinge. Product code: 2211202052. Supplied as a single hinge unit. Steel hinge mechanism with moulded mounting components. Direct replacement for the original factory-fitted hinge.

Safety note: Support the appliance door before the hinge is released — these doors are heavy and the hinge sits under load. Isolate the appliance from the mains before fitting and, where a furniture door is attached, have a second person steady it during removal and refitting.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following symptoms are commonly reported when an integrated fridge freezer hinge begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the hinge is the likely culprit.

1
Door Dropping or Sagging
A worn or cracked hinge loses its ability to hold the door square, so the door gradually drops at the outer edge and no longer sits level with the cabinet carcass.
2
Door Not Closing Flush
When the hinge no longer pulls the door in evenly, the appliance door and furniture door stand proud of the cabinet. The door may need a push to latch, or it springs open again immediately.
3
Poor Seal and Cold Air Loss
A hinge that has shifted the door out of alignment breaks the seal along one edge. Cold air escapes, the compressor runs longer, and the appliance uses noticeably more energy.
4
Condensation or Ice Around the Door Edge
Warm, moist room air drawn in through a misaligned door edge condenses on cold surfaces. Water pooling at the bottom of the cabinet or frost creeping along a seal line often points to hinge sag rather than a failed gasket.
5
Creaking, Clicking or Grinding
Noise on opening and closing usually comes from a dry, worn or deformed hinge pivot. A metallic click at the end of travel can also indicate a partially fractured hinge body.
6
Visible Cracks or Distortion at the Hinge
Inspect the hinge body and its mounting arms with the door open. Hairline cracks, stretched mounting holes or a hinge that has twisted out of shape mean the part is no longer carrying the door safely.
7
Door Catching on the Cabinet or Adjacent Units
As the door drops, its lower edge or the furniture front starts to foul the plinth, the carcass or neighbouring cabinets. This rubbing is a common early sign that the hinge has lost alignment.
8
Door Feels Heavy or Resists Opening
A hinge that has seized, corroded or lost its bearing surface makes the door feel stiff and reluctant to move, and it may not hold itself open at the intended angle.

Fitment Guidance

This part is compatible only with the models listed in the compatibility matrix above. Even if a hinge looks visually identical, mounting patterns and handedness can differ between ranges.

  • Check your full model and PNC number against the AEG, Electrolux, Küppersbusch and Smeg lists before ordering.
  • Confirm whether your appliance uses the same hinge on the upper and lower door positions, as some models use different parts for each.
  • Compare your existing hinge against the new part before dismantling the door — mounting plate shape is the quickest visual check.
  • If your model is not listed, contact our parts team with the model and serial number from the rating plate to confirm fitment.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the hinge has failed, carry out these checks to rule out other causes.

  • Rule out the door seal: Run a finger around the gasket with the door closed. A seal that grips evenly all round but still lets cold air escape points to hinge alignment rather than the gasket.
  • Check the mounting fixings: Loose hinge screws can mimic a failed hinge. Tighten them and recheck the door line before ordering a replacement.
  • Look at both hinges: A single hinge failure often pulls the opposite hinge out of adjustment. Check the door line at top and bottom before deciding which part to replace.
  • Inspect the furniture door brackets: On integrated models the sliding or fixed furniture door brackets can work loose independently of the hinge and produce the same drooping symptom.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance service manual where available.

  1. Isolate the appliance from the mains and empty the door shelves so the door is as light as possible.
  2. Support the appliance door on a padded prop or have a second person hold it steady before releasing any hinge fixings.
  3. Detach the furniture door from the appliance door, noting the position of any sliding brackets or adjustment screws.
  4. Remove the hinge fixing screws and lift the old hinge clear, keeping the screws to one side for reuse.
  5. Fit the new hinge in the same orientation, refit the screws finger-tight, then align the door before final tightening.
  6. Refit the furniture door, check that it sits square and closes flush, and adjust the brackets as required.
  7. Restore the power and confirm the door seals correctly all round before reloading the appliance.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Verify your model and PNC number against the AEG, Electrolux, Küppersbusch and Smeg lists.
  • Confirm which door position the hinge serves — upper or lower — if your appliance uses different parts for each.
  • Check whether the hinge mounting screws are present and reusable, or whether new fixings are needed.
  • Rule out a loose furniture door bracket or a worn door seal before ordering.
  • Verify your full model number — typically found on the rating plate inside the fridge compartment.

Integrated
Door Hinges

Fridge and freezer door hinges wear over time, causing doors to rub, misalign, or even fall. Replacing worn hinges ensures safe and smooth operation.

About Integrated Door Hinges

Door hinges on integrated fridges and freezers are often Hettich or Ingol, although other brand-specific hinges exist. Top and bottom hinges are usually “opposite” of one another, swapping positions if the door is reversed.

We strongly recommend replacing both hinges at the same time. Many manufacturers now sell door hinges as a kit, as if one fails, the other is likely to follow soon after.

To identify Hettich hinges, check the number stamped on the plate fixing the outer wooden door (e.g., 3362 5.0). The hinge end may have a number (41.5 or 45). If it’s 45, contact us before ordering, as these can be model-specific.
