Fridge Freezer Spare Parts Complexity

Fridges and freezers are among the longest-lived appliances in the house, and that's part of the problem. A cabinet can stay in use for many years, and over that time the maker will quietly change components — a different thermostat here, a revised door seal there — without ever changing the model name.

Which means the model number on its own often won't tell you — or us — which version you actually have. That's why we ask for the product code as well as the serial number; between them, they pin down the exact build. More on why this happens here.

Different Brands, Same Fridge Freezer Parts

Very few parts belong to just one badge. A door seal or a thermostat will typically fit half a dozen brands, because the same factories build the same cabinets and sell them under different names — some of which never reached the UK.

To anyone outside the trade, this looks baffling. It can give the impression that every fridge is the same machine underneath — not quite true, but it's not far off either.

The usual caveats still apply, but once you know which parts are shared, you can save real money. The same component is often listed at very different prices depending on the brand name attached to it, and spotting that is something we do as a matter of course. The saving goes to you rather than staying with us.
