Water Inlet Valve
Replacement three-way water inlet valve with integrated flow meter – compatible with AEG, Electrolux & John Lewis models as shown unless advised otherwise
Description
This genuine three-way water inlet valve replaces the inlet solenoid valve used across a wide range of AEG, Electrolux, and John Lewis washer dryers. The valve includes an integrated flow meter, allowing the appliance's control board to measure the exact volume of water entering the drum and adjust the fill level precisely. This level of control is essential for efficient detergent dosing, accurate rinse performance, and correct drying-cycle operation.
The valve features three separate 220–230V AC solenoid coils with quick connectors, a 3/4" inlet connection and 12mm outlets. Over time, inlet valves can become blocked with limescale and sediment, the solenoid coils can burn out, or the flow meter can fail to register water passing through. Common symptoms include the machine failing to fill, filling very slowly, displaying water inlet error codes, or continuing to fill even when switched off.
Technical Notes
Specifications: Three-way straight inlet valve with integrated flow meter; Coils: 3 x 220–230V AC with quick connectors; Inlet: 3/4"; Outlets: 12mm; Weight: approx. 180g.
Fitment guidance: This water inlet valve is model-specific and will only fit the AEG, Electrolux and John Lewis models listed below. It will not fit others, even if they appear similar. The model number and, in many cases, the Product or PNC number on the rating plate are essential for correct identification. Always verify your full model number before ordering.
Diagnostic tip: The most common symptoms of a failing inlet valve are the machine failing to fill with water, filling extremely slowly, or continuing to fill even after the power has been switched off. If the appliance displays a water inlet error code, or if you notice that the flow meter is not registering water usage correctly, the valve is the likely culprit. Before replacing the valve, check that the water supply tap is fully open, that the inlet hose is not kinked, and that the small mesh filter inside the valve inlet is not clogged with debris or limescale.
Installation guide: Always disconnect the appliance from the mains and shut off the water supply before starting any repair. Pull the machine out from under the counter and remove the top panel to access the valve at the rear. Photograph the wiring and hose connections before removal. Disconnect the inlet hose from the valve, then remove the wires from the solenoid coils, noting their positions. Unscrew the mounting screws and withdraw the old valve. Check that the new valve's seals are correctly seated, then fit it in reverse order, reconnecting the hoses and wiring securely. Restore the water supply and power, and run a short fill cycle to check for leaks and confirm correct operation.

Common Faults & SymptomsThe following fault codes and symptoms are commonly reported when the three-way water inlet valve or its integrated flow meter begins to fail on AEG, Electrolux and John Lewis washer dryers. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the valve is the likely culprit. 1
Error code E10 / E11 / C1 (water inlet fault)
This is the classic sign that the machine is having trouble filling with water. On AEG and Electrolux models, E10, E11 and C1 all point to a water inlet problem. The valve may be blocked, the solenoid coil may have failed, or the flow meter is not registering water passing through. Check the tap, inlet hose and filter first, but if those are clear the valve is the likely cause.
2
Machine does not fill, or fills extremely slowly
A partial or full loss of water flow is often the first sign of a failing inlet valve. The valve may open only partially due to a weak solenoid coil, or the internal filter may be clogged with limescale and sediment. If the machine takes far longer than normal to fill, or fails to fill at all, the valve should be tested.
3
Machine continues to fill when switched off
If water continues to enter the drum even after the power has been switched off, the valve is no longer closing properly. This is a serious fault that can lead to flooding if left unaddressed. The internal diaphragm or spring may be stuck, preventing the valve from sealing.
4
Incorrect water levels or poor rinse performance
If the integrated flow meter fails to measure water intake accurately, the control board may allow too much or too little water into the drum. This can result in poorly rinsed laundry, excessive water usage, or the machine aborting the cycle midway through filling.
5
Error code E20 / E21 / C2 (drainage fault) appearing alongside fill issues
In some cases a faulty inlet valve can trigger drainage error codes as a secondary symptom, particularly if the machine repeatedly attempts to fill and drain to clear a perceived fault. If both E10 and E20 codes are present, address the inlet valve fault first before investigating the drain system.
6
Audible humming or buzzing from the valve area
A solenoid coil that is failing can produce a loud hum or buzz when energised, even if it no longer opens the valve. This is often a sign that the coil is burning out and the valve is on borrowed time — replacing it now prevents a mid-cycle failure.
7
Visible leaks around the valve or inlet connections
A cracked valve body, a perished O-ring, or a loose inlet connection can allow water to escape. If you notice water pooling behind or beneath the machine, inspect the valve assembly and its seals before looking elsewhere.
8
Flow meter not registering water usage
On models that log water consumption or use flow data to control fill levels, a failed flow meter can cause the machine to misreport water usage, overfill, or fail to complete a cycle because it never registers that the drum is full.

Washing Machine
Water Valves
Water inlet valves are often model-specific or keyed for certain washing machines and washer dryers. Correct identification is vital to ensure the right fit.
Model-Specific Valves
Many washing machine and washer-dryer water valves are production-specific, with unique mounts or electrical connectors. Always order using your model number, and provide any additional details if required.
Using Generic Fill Valves
Universal valves can work for standard machines but may require adaptations. Use them at your own risk. They can save significant money but aren’t guaranteed to fit every keyed or restricted valve design.
Restrictors & Complex Valves
Twin or triple valves, or those with built-in restrictors, usually cannot be replaced with generic valves. Dishwashers often require the original valve due to pressure chambers or keyed designs.
