Replacement washer dryer door seal – compatible with Ariston, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your washer dryer model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

A compatible replacement door seal that forms a watertight gasket between the door and drum on Ariston, Hotpoint, Indesit, and Whirlpool washer dryers.

This seal matches the original part's specifications and performance, with a flexible rubber construction and correct drain-hole positioning to fit the intended models. The seal sits around the door opening, held in place by retaining bands, and is designed to keep water inside the drum throughout the wash, rinse and spin cycles while cushioning the door as it closes. Fitting a matched seal ensures the door closes with the correct pressure and the drain holes align correctly with the drum.

This door seal will only fit the washer dryer models as shown or as specifically advised and will not fit any others, even if it looks the same. It probably won't, as several look alike but aren't. Please take time to ensure this is correct before ordering. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to contact us and ask for assistance. This spare part can vary by product code/serial number; please check suitability before ordering.

Door seals deteriorate gradually through constant exposure to detergent, heat and mechanical stress. Common signs of failure include water pooling under the door, black mould growing in the rubber folds, a torn or stretched lip, and the door no longer closing with a firm seal. If left unreplaced, a leaking door seal can damage the floor and surrounding cabinetry, and in some cases water can reach the door lock and trigger a fault code. Replacing the seal early protects both the appliance and the kitchen. This compatible replacement matches the original part's specifications and performance; in fact, we can't tell the difference between this and the original seal.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Compatible washer dryer door seal (door gasket). Material: flexible rubber. Supplied with retaining bands where applicable. Product code: DBT164.

Safety note: Always disconnect the appliance from the mains supply before beginning any repair. Wear gloves when handling the old seal, as detergent residue can irritate the skin and the retaining band may have sharp edges. Take care when removing the wire band, as it is under tension and can spring back.

Fitment guidance: This seal fits only the Ariston, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool washer dryer models listed in the compatibility matrix below. Model numbers can be found on the rating plate on the inner edge of the door or on the rear panel of the appliance.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following fault codes and symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the part is the likely culprit.

1
Error Code F08 (Hotpoint / Indesit) — Door Interlock Fault
Displayed by Hotpoint and Indesit washer dryers when the door lock circuit is not functioning correctly. The machine may refuse to start, or the door may remain locked after a cycle. While F08 usually points to the door interlock itself, an obstruction in the door seal or a seal that prevents the door from closing fully can cause the same code. Check that the door closes flush against the seal before replacing the lock.
2
Error Code F5 E3 (Hotpoint) — Door Lock System Fault
On Hotpoint-family machines, F5 E3 is associated with the door-lock system — the machine isn't getting the correct confirmation that the door is locked or unlocked. Water escaping past a worn door seal can short the lock mechanism, producing this code. Check the seal for damage and confirm the door closes flush before replacing the lock.
3
Error Code F17 (Ariston / Indesit) — Door Lock Unfed / Open
Ariston and Indesit washer dryers may display F17 when the door lock is not receiving power or is not closing correctly. The door may not lock, or the machine may not start a cycle. This can be caused by a faulty door lock, a wiring fault, or a door seal that prevents the door from closing fully. Check that the seal is correctly seated and the door closes flush before replacing the lock.
4
Error Code F13 (Whirlpool) — Door Problem
Whirlpool washer dryers may display F13 when there is a problem with the door. The door may not be closing properly, or there may be an obstruction preventing the lock from engaging. A worn or damaged door seal can prevent the door from sitting flush, causing this code. Check that the seal is not torn or misaligned and that the door closes fully before assuming the lock has failed.
5
Error Code E30 / C3 / EF0 (Electrolux / Hotpoint) — Water Leak Detected
Electrolux and Hotpoint washer dryers display this code when the anti-flood system has been triggered. A leak from the door seal — particularly at the bottom where clothing can get caught between the seal and the glass — is one of the most common causes. Check the door seal for signs of weeping or dripping, and ensure that clothing is not trapped in the door before running a cycle.
6
Water Leaking From Under the Door
The most common and most obvious sign of a failing door seal. Water pools at the base of the door during the wash cycle and may run onto the floor. In most cases the leak worsens over time as the rubber lip hardens and loses its ability to seal against the door glass. Check that the drain holes at the bottom of the seal are clear before ordering a replacement.
7
Visible Cracks, Tears or Stretched Rubber
Run a finger around the inside and outside of the seal, feeling for splits, holes, or sections where the rubber has become soft and stretched. A seal that no longer springs back into shape when pressed has lost its elasticity and will not hold water reliably. Pay particular attention to the bottom of the seal, where detergent and water collect.
8
Black Mould or Mildew in the Folds
Dark staining or a musty smell coming from the seal indicates mould growth within the folds of the rubber. While light surface mould can be cleaned, deep-seated black mould often means the rubber has become porous and cannot be fully restored. Persistent mould is a common reason to replace the seal even when it is not visibly leaking.
9
Door Difficult to Close or Banging During Spin
A door seal that has swollen, warped or come away from the drum can make the door difficult to latch. During the spin cycle the door may bang or rattle because the seal no longer cushions it correctly. Check that the seal is seated properly before assuming the door hinge or lock is at fault.
10
Black Marks or Smears on Laundry
Clothes coming out of the machine with black marks or greasy streaks often indicates that the door seal has perished or become contaminated with mould and detergent residue. The rubber is breaking down and transferring material onto the laundry during the cycle. Cleaning may help temporarily, but a perished seal will continue to mark clothing.

Fitment Guidance

This door seal is compatible only with the Ariston, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool washer dryer models listed in the compatibility matrix above. Even if a seal looks visually similar, the profile of the rubber lip and the position of the drain holes can differ between models, so a part that appears to fit may not seal correctly.

  • The model number is usually found on a rating plate inside the door opening, on the rear panel of the machine, or on the inner edge of the door frame.
  • For Hotpoint, Indesit and Ariston machines, the rating plate is often located behind the detergent drawer or on the back of the appliance.
  • Compare the full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Check that the drain holes in the new seal match the position of those on the old one.
  • If the model number is not listed, contact our parts advisors before ordering.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the door seal has failed, carry out these checks to rule out other causes. Most require only a visual inspection.

  • Visual inspection: Examine the full length of the seal in good light, inside and out, for cracks, tears, or hard, shiny patches where the rubber has perished.
  • Wipe test: Run a clean cloth around the seal and check for black residue, which indicates the rubber is breaking down.
  • Drain hole check: Locate the small drain holes at the bottom of the seal and confirm they are clear. Blocked drain holes cause water to overflow from the seal even when the rubber itself is sound.
  • Retaining band check: Confirm that the wire retaining band is intact and tight. A loose or broken band allows the seal to lift away from the drum.
  • Detergent check: Confirm you are using the correct amount and type of detergent. Excess suds can leak past a sound seal and mimic a seal failure.
  • Door alignment check: Close the door and check that it meets the seal evenly. A misaligned door hinge can cause leaks even with a new seal fitted.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure for replacing a washer dryer door seal. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance manual where available.

  1. Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply and turn off the water inlet.
  2. Open the door and, where possible, remove it by unscrewing the hinge screws. Set the door aside safely.
  3. Prise off the outer retaining band or spring clip using a flat-head screwdriver. Take care, as the band is under tension and can spring back.
  4. Pull the outer edge of the seal away from the front panel and fold it back to expose the inner retaining band around the drum.
  5. Remove the inner retaining band by releasing the tensioning spring, then pull the old seal away from the drum opening.
  6. Clean the drum lip and the door opening thoroughly, removing any detergent residue or limescale.
  7. Fit the inner lip of the new seal over the drum opening, aligning the drain holes with the bottom of the drum.
  8. Refit the inner retaining band and tension it so the seal sits firmly against the drum.
  9. Fold the outer edge of the seal over the front panel and refit the outer retaining band or spring clip.
  10. Refit the door if it was removed.
  11. Restore the mains supply and run a short rinse cycle with no laundry to confirm there are no leaks.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Verify your full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Check that the drain holes at the bottom of your existing seal are clear, as blockages can mimic a seal failure.
  • Confirm that the retaining bands are intact and tight before ordering a replacement.
  • Inspect the door hinge and lock for damage, as misalignment can cause leaks even with a new seal.
  • Rule out over-sudsing from too much detergent before concluding the seal has failed.
  • Contact our parts advisors if any doubt remains about fitment before placing your order.

Door Seals & Gaskets

Door seals, also called boot seals or gaskets, keep water in your washing machine. Faulty seals can lead to leaks, mould, or damage to internal components.

About Washing Machine Door Seals

Most modern door seals are made from a silicone-based compound rather than rubber. This resists wear, prevents deterioration, and avoids damage from skin creams or chemicals.

Low-quality seals may deform, and cheap washers can develop mould due to low water levels. Always check the make, model, and serial number to ensure a proper fit.

Save Money On
Spare Parts.

Cost-compatible spare parts are not generic “one-size-fits-all” items. They fall into several categories, and care must be taken to ensure the replacement is fully appropriate for your appliance.

How Compatible Parts Work

Most cost-compatible parts are the same components originally used by the manufacturer but sourced from a different supplier. Often, the brand on your appliance did not manufacture every part themselves. Clever sourcing allows us to provide the exact same part — at a lower cost — sometimes even using a different manufacturer’s part number.

Choosing The Right Replacement

Some compatible parts are excellent, offering the same performance as the original. Others are very cheap but may fail quickly. We evaluate parts before listing and provide guidance so you can avoid low-quality replacements.

Obsolete or Universal Parts

Some original parts are no longer available, so compatible alternatives are the only option. Universal parts may also be used. We only list replacements we trust to ensure quality and fit, protecting you from poor-performing components.
