A replacement heating element for the Bosch and Siemens washing machines and washer dryers listed below.
The heating element raises the temperature of the wash water inside the drum, allowing the machine to run hot washes, activate detergent properly, and deliver the cleaning performance the programme was designed to achieve. It sits at the base of the outer tub, immersed in the wash water, and the appliance's electronic board controls it via a temperature sensor. When the machine calls for heat, current passes through the element's resistive coil, which warms the surrounding water until the sensor signals that the target temperature has been reached. Because it is in constant contact with water and detergent, the element is exposed to limescale, corrosion and thermal stress throughout its working life.
Heating elements fail in a small number of predictable ways. The most common is that the internal coil burns out, leaving the machine to run cold on every programme — the drum turns, the water fills and drains, but the wash stays lukewarm or stone cold, and clothes come out dull and still smelling of detergent. In other cases, limescale build-up on the element sheath causes it to overheat and crack, or the element develops a short to earth that trips the household RCD or blows the fuse. A partially failed element can also make the machine take much longer than usual to complete a cycle, or stop mid-programme with a heating fault. Visible signs of failure include a burnt or blackened element, a broken or blistered sheath, or a scorched terminal area. Replacing a failed element restores hot washing, improves cleaning results and prevents the extra wear that cold washing places on the machine.
This heating element will only fit the models shown or as specifically advised and will not fit any others, even if it looks the same. It probably won't, as several look alike but aren't. Fitment guidance: This heating element is known to fit only the Bosch and Siemens washing machine and washer dryer models listed below, and will not fit any others. The model number is normally found on the rating plate inside the door aperture, on the rear casing, or behind the lower service flap. The full alphanumeric code, including the variant number after the slash, should be quoted where possible, as two appliances sharing the same base model can be built with different tub assemblies and elements. Because several elements look almost identical while differing in power rating, terminal configuration and element length, always confirm the full model and serial number against the compatibility list rather than relying on appearance alone. If your model is not listed, contact our parts advisors with the full model and serial number before ordering.
Diagnostic tip: Before ordering, isolate the appliance from the electrical supply and remove the rear or base panel to access the element at the bottom of the tub. Inspect the element for visible damage such as a broken coil, a blistered or blackened sheath, or a scorched terminal area. Test the element with a multimeter set to resistance: a healthy element typically reads between 25 and 30 ohms depending on its power rating. A reading of infinity indicates an open circuit and a failed element. Also check for continuity between each terminal and the metal sheath — any reading here means the element has shorted to earth and must be replaced. Test the temperature sensor (NTC) at the same time, as a faulty sensor can cause the element to overheat or fail to activate. Check the wiring and terminals for signs of heat damage or corrosion, and confirm that the control board is supplying voltage to the element when a hot programme is selected. If the element tests correctly but the machine still runs cold, the fault may lie with the control board or the pressure switch rather than the element itself.
Installation guide: 1. Isolate the appliance from the electrical supply and turn off the water inlet. 2. Remove the rear or base panel to access the heating element at the bottom of the tub. 3. Photograph the wiring connections before removing anything. 4. Disconnect the spade terminals from the element. 5. Remove the retaining nut or bracket that holds the element in place. 6. Withdraw the old element from the tub, taking care not to damage the rubber seal or the surrounding components. 7. Clean the mounting hole and remove any limescale or debris. 8. Fit the new rubber seal onto the new element, if a new seal is supplied. 9. Insert the new element into the mounting hole, ensuring the seal is correctly seated and the element sits flat. 10. Refit the retaining nut or bracket, tightening it evenly. 11. Reconnect the spade terminals to the correct tags. 12. Refit the rear or base panel. 13. Restore the power and water supply, and run a short hot wash to confirm the element heats correctly and that no leaks are present.
Safety note: Always isolate the appliance from the mains before beginning any work. The element and surrounding components may retain heat — allow the machine to cool before handling. Residual water in the tub may be hot, so drain the machine before removing the element. The element sheath can have sharp edges, so handle with care. Never touch the element with bare hands during fitting, as body oils can shorten its working life. After fitting, run a short hot cycle to burn off any protective coating on the new element and ventilate the room during this first use.

Wash Water Not Heating / Machine Runs Cold
The most common symptom of a failed heating element. The machine completes the wash cycle as normal, but the water stays cold or only lukewarm, so clothes come out dull, still smelling of detergent and not properly cleaned. The drum turns and the programme progresses, but there is no heat at all. This is almost always caused by the element burning out internally, leaving an open circuit. Test the element with a multimeter to confirm.

Bosch / Siemens Error Code E05 / E06 (Heating Fault)
On many Bosch and Siemens models, a heating fault is logged as E05 or E06, indicating that the water is not heating within the expected time. The machine may stop mid-cycle and display the code, or it may complete the wash cold. This code is most commonly triggered by a faulty heating element, though a broken thermistor or a control board fault can produce the same result. Test the element first, as it is the most common cause.

Wash Cycles Taking Much Longer Than Usual

On many Bosch and Siemens models, the temperature sensor (NTC) is mounted on or near the heating element. If the element has failed due to overheating, the NTC may also have been damaged. A faulty NTC can cause the element to overheat, fail to activate, or trigger heating error codes. Always test the NTC at the same time as the element and replace it if it is out of specification. A healthy NTC typically reads around 5 to 6 kilo-ohms at room temperature, dropping as it warms.
