Replacement evaporator support – compatible with Ariston, Creda, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool fridge freezers as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your fridge freezer model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

A replacement evaporator support for the Ariston, Creda, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool fridge-freezers listed below.

The evaporator support is the moulded bracket that holds the evaporator plate securely in position inside the freezer compartment. It also incorporates a channel that collects the water produced when the evaporator defrosts, directing it away from the cooling coils and towards the drain. Without a secure support, the evaporator can shift out of position, reducing its contact with the compartment walls and causing the appliance to lose cooling efficiency.

Evaporator supports fail over time because of the constant freezing and thawing they endure. The plastic can become brittle and crack, or the retaining clips that hold the evaporator in place can snap. Once the support is damaged, the evaporator may loosen and vibrate against the compartment, and the water collection channel may become misaligned, causing water to pool inside the freezer or drip into the fridge section. You may notice unusual noises, reduced cooling, or ice buildup in the wrong place.

This support will only fit the models shown or as specifically advised and will not fit any others, even if it looks the same. It probably won't, as several look alike but aren't. Please take time to ensure this is correct before ordering. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to contact us and ask for assistance.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Type: evaporator support / mounting bracket with integrated drip channel. Material: moulded plastic. Colour: typically white or grey. Mounting: clip or screw fixing inside the freezer compartment. Supplied as: support only — evaporator, fixings and other components are not included. Product code: C00022468. Suitable for the Ariston, Creda, Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool fridge freezer models listed below.

Fitment guidance: This evaporator support is known to fit only the models listed below, and will not fit any others. The model number is normally found on the rating plate inside the refrigerator compartment, on the rear of the appliance, or on the side wall. Because several supports look almost identical while differing in clip positions and channel dimensions, always confirm the model number against the compatibility list rather than relying on appearance alone.

Diagnostic tip: Before ordering, inspect the existing support for cracks, broken clips, or a distorted water channel. Look for signs of water damage or ice build-up around the base of the evaporator. If the evaporator feels loose when gently pressed, the support clips are likely broken. Check that the drain hole is clear, as a blocked drain can cause water to overflow the support and give the impression that the support itself is faulty. If you are replacing the support because of ice build-up, also check the defrost heater and timer, as these can be the root cause.

Installation guide: 1. Unplug the appliance from the mains and, if possible, remove the food from the freezer compartment. 2. Remove the freezer drawers and shelves to give clear access. 3. If the evaporator is covered by a rear panel, remove the screws or clips securing it and set the panel aside. 4. Note the position of the evaporator and its support before removing anything. 5. Carefully release the evaporator from the old support, taking care not to damage the fragile cooling coils. 6. Remove the old support and clean the mounting area. 7. Fit the new support in position, ensuring the clips or screw holes align correctly. 8. Seat the evaporator back into the support, checking that it is fully engaged and secure. 9. Refit the rear panel and the drawers or shelves. 10. Restore the power and allow the appliance to run for a few hours to confirm correct cooling and that no water is pooling in the compartment.

Safety note: Always unplug the appliance before beginning any work. The evaporator coils are delicate and can be easily punctured — handle them with care and never use sharp tools near the cooling circuit. If the appliance uses R600a refrigerant, take extra care as this is flammable. Allow the appliance to stand for a few hours after moving it before switching it back on, to allow the compressor oil to settle.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following fault codes and symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the part is the likely culprit.

1
Evaporator Loose or Vibrating
A damaged support can allow the evaporator to move slightly, which often produces a rattling or buzzing noise during operation. This vibration can also cause the evaporator to rub against the compartment wall, potentially damaging the cooling circuit. If the evaporator feels loose when gently pressed, the support clips are likely broken and replacement is required.
2
Water Pooling in the Freezer Compartment
One of the most common symptoms. The support includes a channel that collects defrost water and directs it to the drain hole. If the support is cracked or misaligned, water can overflow and pool at the bottom of the freezer, leading to ice build-up and potential damage to food packaging. Check that the drain hole itself is clear before ordering a new support.
3
Visible Cracks or Broken Clips on the Support
Inspect the support closely with a torch. Look for hairline cracks radiating from the mounting points, broken retaining clips, or a distorted water channel. Any of these indicate the support has become brittle and needs replacing. Even a small crack can cause the support to fail completely under the weight of the evaporator and the stress of thermal cycling.
4
Ice Building Up Around the Evaporator
If the support is not holding the evaporator correctly, the defrost water may not drain away properly, leading to a build-up of ice on and around the evaporator coils. This reduces cooling efficiency and can eventually block airflow. While a faulty defrost system can also cause this symptom, a damaged support should be ruled out first, as it is a simpler and more visible fault.
5
Reduced Cooling Efficiency
When the evaporator is not held tightly against the compartment wall, heat transfer is less efficient. The freezer may struggle to maintain temperature, running for longer periods, and the fridge section may also be affected. This is often a gradual decline, so you may not notice it immediately. If the appliance seems to be running more than usual and no other cause is found, check the evaporator support.
6
Water Dripping into the Fridge Section
In some fridge freezer designs, the evaporator support is positioned such that a failure can cause defrost water to drip down into the fridge compartment rather than draining away. You may notice water collecting on shelves or at the bottom of the fridge, or food packaging becoming wet. This can lead to spoilage and unpleasant odours if not addressed promptly.
7
Unusual Noises From the Freezer
A loose evaporator can produce rattling, buzzing or knocking sounds as it vibrates against the support or the compartment wall. These noises are often more noticeable during the defrost cycle or when the compressor is running. While some operational noise is normal, new or worsening sounds should be investigated, and the evaporator support is a common culprit.
8
Food Freezing in the Fridge Section
In some cases, a misaligned evaporator support can cause the evaporator to sit too close to the fridge compartment, leading to unusually cold temperatures in the fridge and food freezing. This is less common than the other symptoms but can occur if the support has shifted significantly. Check the support and the evaporator position if you notice food freezing in the fridge.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Inspect the existing support for cracks, broken clips or a distorted water channel.
  • Check that the evaporator feels secure and does not move when gently pressed.
  • Clear the defrost drain hole and check for blockages before ordering a new support.
  • Confirm the model number against the compatibility list, as support designs vary between models.
  • Photograph the existing support and its position before removing anything.
  • If you are unsure whether this is the correct part for your appliance, contact our parts advisors with your full model and serial number.

Disclaimer: The fault codes and symptoms listed above are intended as a general guide to assist with diagnosis. They cannot be taken as a definitive diagnosis of any particular problem, and other components may produce similar symptoms. Always confirm the fault with proper testing before ordering parts.
