Description

Restore your Elica cooker hood's extraction performance with this genuine metal grease filter.

As an original Elica component, it matches the factory-fitted filter in dimensions, mesh construction, and frame profile.

The filter mounts on the underside of the hood and traps cooking grease, oil vapour, and food particles before they reach the fan and ducting. Manufactured from layers of expanded aluminium mesh held in a rigid frame, it is designed to withstand the heat and grease of daily cooking while allowing air to pass through freely. You can wash the mesh by hand or in a dishwasher and refit it for repeated use, making it a practical, cost-effective alternative to disposable paper filters.

Grease filters commonly fail due to clogging, corrosion, or physical damage. When the mesh becomes saturated with grease that cannot be washed out, airflow through the hood is restricted, the motor has to work harder, and extraction performance drops, which can lead to overheating. Physical damage such as bent frames, torn mesh, or missing retaining clips prevents the filter from seating correctly, allowing grease to bypass it and reach the motor. Replacing a failed filter is the most effective way to restore extraction performance and protect the hood's internal components.

This grease filter will only fit the models as shown or as specifically advised and will not fit any others, even if it looks the same. It probably won't fit, as there are several that look alike yet are not. Please take time to ensure this is correct before ordering. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to contact us and ask for assistance.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Genuine Elica metal grease filter. Material: multi-layer expanded aluminium mesh in a rigid metal frame. Finish: natural aluminium with metallic edge trim. Product code: not shown in the URL.

Safety note: Always isolate the appliance from the electrical supply before beginning any work. Allow the hood to cool and the grease to solidify before handling the old filter, as hot grease can cause burns. Wear gloves when removing the filter, as edges may be sharp and the old filter may be heavily soiled. Wash the new filter before first use to remove any manufacturing residue.

Fitment guidance: This metal grease filter fits only the Elica cooker hood models listed in the compatibility matrix below. Model numbers can be found on a rating plate on the underside of the hood or on the inner edge of the chimney section.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following fault codes and symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the part is the likely culprit.

1
Reduced Suction or Weak Extraction
The most common symptom of a clogged grease filter. Steam, cooking odours and smoke linger in the kitchen instead of being drawn up into the hood. This happens when the mesh becomes so saturated with grease that air can no longer pass through it freely, forcing the motor to work harder for reduced airflow. A highly clogged filter also increases the risk of fire during high-temperature cooking.
2
Grease Dripping From the Hood
When the filter can no longer hold the grease it traps, oil begins to drip from the underside of the hood onto the hob below. This is both a safety hazard and a sign that the filter mesh has become fully saturated. Washing the filter thoroughly can provide a temporary fix, but if the mesh has lost its structure or the frame is bent, replacement is necessary.
3
Error Code E2 (Elica Hoods with Display) — Overheating
Some Elica models with a digital display may show E2 for an overheating condition. A severely clogged grease filter restricts airflow enough to cause heat build-up around the motor and electronics. Allow the appliance to cool, then check and clean or replace the grease filter before resetting the error.
4
Error Code E8 (Elica Hoods with Display) — Unit Defect
Elica models may show E8 for a defect in the extraction unit. While this code can point to a motor or control fault, a severely clogged grease filter is a common cause of motor overheating. Check and replace the grease filter before assuming the motor itself has failed.
5
Grease Filter Saturation Signal Flashing (Elica Hoods with Indicator)
On Elica hoods fitted with a filter saturation indicator, a flashing LED or an alternating F and G display indicates that the grease filter needs to be washed or replaced. The signal typically activates after approximately 30 hours of operation. If the signal persists after washing the filter and resetting the indicator, the filter mesh has likely degraded and should be replaced.
6
Visible Dirt, Discolouration or Saturation on the Filter
Remove the filter and inspect it in good light. A saturated filter will appear dark, greasy or uniformly discoloured. Aluminium mesh can discolour, become brittle, or corrode over time. A corroded filter loses its structural integrity and its ability to trap grease effectively. Once the mesh has begun to corrode, replacement is the only reliable solution.
7
Increased Noise From the Motor
A restricted filter forces the extraction motor to work harder to pull air through, which can cause the hood to become noticeably louder during operation. A hood that used to run quietly at low speed but now sounds strained or whistles is often suffering from a partially blocked grease filter rather than a failing motor.
8
Filter No Longer Seats Securely
If the filter has warped or the retaining clips have broken, it may sit loose in its housing or fall out when the hood is opened. A filter that does not sit flush allows grease and steam to bypass it, reducing extraction efficiency and allowing residue to build up inside the hood. Check the retaining clips and the filter frame before concluding the filter needs replacement.
9
Persistent Odours in the Kitchen
A saturated grease filter holds onto cooking odours and releases them back into the kitchen even after the hood has been switched off. If cooking smells linger for longer than usual, or if the hood itself has developed a stale, greasy smell, the filter is likely the source. Cleaning may help, but a filter that has absorbed odours for a long period will eventually need to be replaced.
10
Grease Build-Up Inside the Hood Body
If grease is accumulating on the inside of the hood, around the motor housing, or on the ducting, the filter is no longer trapping grease effectively. This is often caused by a filter that has lost its mesh structure or is not seated correctly. Cleaning the interior of the hood without addressing the filter will not prevent the problem from returning.

Fitment Guidance

This metal grease filter is compatible only with the Elica cooker hood models listed in the compatibility matrix above. Even if a filter looks visually similar, the dimensions and the position of the retaining clips can differ between models, so a part that appears to fit may not seat correctly or may allow grease to bypass it.

  • The model number is usually found on a rating plate on the underside of the hood or on the inner edge of the chimney section.
  • For integrated or built-in hoods, the rating plate may be located behind the grease filter or on the side of the motor housing.
  • Compare the full model number against the compatibility list above.
  • Check that the dimensions and the position of the retaining clips on your existing filter match this replacement before ordering.
  • If the model number is not listed, contact our parts advisors before ordering.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the filter needs replacing, carry out these checks to rule out other causes. Most require only a visual inspection.

  • Visual inspection: Remove the filter and hold it up to a light source. You should be able to see through the mesh. If light is blocked or the mesh looks uniformly dark with grease, the filter is clogged.
  • Frame check: Confirm that the frame is not bent, the mesh is not torn, and the retaining clips are intact. Any of these issues means the filter should be replaced rather than cleaned.
  • Cleaning test: Wash the filter in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher on a normal cycle. If grease remains after washing, the mesh has become permanently saturated and replacement is necessary.
  • Extraction test: With the filter fitted and the hood running at full speed, hold a piece of tissue paper against the underside of the hood. If the tissue falls away, extraction is weak, which may indicate a blocked filter or a motor issue.
  • Motor noise check: Listen to the hood at each speed setting. A motor that sounds strained or laboured even after cleaning the filter may have other issues — confirm the filter is not the cause before ordering a motor.
  • Ducting check: Confirm that the ducting behind the hood is not blocked or kinked. Poor extraction can also be caused by a blocked duct rather than a failed filter.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure for replacing a cooker hood metal grease filter. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance manual where available.

  1. Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply.
  2. Allow the hood to cool completely and the grease to solidify before beginning work.
  3. Locate the grease filter, which is usually visible on the underside of the hood, held in place by retaining clips or a spring-loaded catch.
  4. Release the retaining clips or pull the release catch to lower the filter from its housing. Support the filter with one hand as you release it, as it may be heavy with grease.
  5. Clean the inside of the hood body and the filter housing with a degreasing cleaner, removing any grease that has accumulated behind the filter.
  6. If the new filter is supplied with separate retaining clips, fit these to the filter before installation.
  7. Position the new filter in its housing, ensuring it sits flush against the frame and does not obstruct the motor or the lighting.
  8. Secure the filter with the retaining clips or catch. Check that it is held firmly and does not rattle when the hood is switched on.
  9. Restore the mains supply and run the hood at each speed setting to confirm that extraction is smooth and no vibration or rattling is present.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Verify your full model number against the compatibility list above.
  • Check that the dimensions and the position of the retaining clips on your existing filter match this replacement.
  • Inspect the existing filter for tears, bent frames or corroded mesh before concluding it needs replacement.
  • Wash the existing filter thoroughly — if the grease cannot be removed, replacement is the correct solution.
  • Confirm that the ducting behind the hood is not blocked or kinked.
  • Contact our parts advisors if any doubt remains about fitment before placing your order.

Disclaimer: The fault codes and symptoms listed above are intended as a general guide to assist with diagnosis. They cannot be taken as a definitive diagnosis of any particular problem, and other components may produce similar symptoms. Always confirm the fault with proper testing before ordering parts.

Cooker Hood
Filters

Cooker hood filters come in two main types: grease filters, which prevent grease entering the motor, and carbon/charcoal filters, which remove odours and protect the motor. All hoods require a grease filter, and non-vented hoods should also have a carbon filter fitted. Regular replacement or cleaning is essential for optimal performance.

Filter Replacement Guidelines

  • Grease filters: replace every 1–6 months depending on cooking frequency and type
  • Carbon/charcoal filters: replace every 3–6 months for optimal odour removal
  • Metal mesh grease filters: clean regularly to prevent blockage or damage
  • Replacement frequency depends on cooking habits rather than just manufacturer guidelines

Some cooker hood filters are highly model-specific. Images and sizes are for illustration only. Always check compatibility with your specific model to ensure correct fit and performance.

Important: Do not rely solely on images, as filters can appear identical but be incompatible. Always refer to model specifications and contact us if unsure.
