Description

The lower spray arm is the rotating wash arm fitted in the dishwasher base, directly above the sump and filter assembly. It delivers the main wash and rinse water to the lower basket, and on most programmes it does the heaviest work of the entire wash cycle. 

Water is pumped up through the central hub, forced out through the angled jets along the arm, and the reaction from those jets spins the arm so that every part of the lower basket is covered. Because the lower spray arm sits closest to the filter and the heaviest food debris, it is constantly exposed to grease, scale and small particles that can block the jets or stiffen the rotation. This replacement matches the original arm in its hub, locating collar, and jet layout, so it seats correctly on the existing support and restores the full spray pattern across the lower basket.

Spray arms fail in ways that are easy to overlook at first. The most common complaint is that dishes in the lower basket come out gritty, still greasy or covered in a fine film, even though the machine appears to be running normally. This usually means some jets are blocked with scale or food particles, or the arm no longer spins freely because the hub has stiffened with detergent residue.

A cracked or split spray arm will spray water sideways instead of upwards, and a damaged locating collar can allow the arm to lift off its support during the cycle. In other cases, the arm develops a split seam, loses an end cap, or becomes brittle from heat and age. 

Once the arm is damaged or badly blocked, cleaning rarely restores full performance, and a replacement lower spray arm is the most reliable way to bring wash results back to normal.

Fitment guidance: This lower spray arm is confirmed for the Candy, Haier, Hoover, Rosieres and Zerowatt dishwasher models listed below. The model number is normally found on the rating plate, which is located on the edge of the dishwasher door, on the side of the tub behind the door seal, or on the rear of the appliance. Match the complete model number, including any numbers shown in brackets. Spray arms are easy to mis-order because many look similar while differing in hub diameter, arm length, jet angle and locating collar, so never order on appearance alone. Where a compatibility list shows “Others TBC”, those models are not individually confirmed and should be verified by full model number before ordering.

Diagnostic tip: Remove the lower basket and check that the spray arm spins freely by hand. It should turn with almost no resistance and should not wobble on its hub. Inspect every jet under a bright light — if the holes are blocked with scale, detergent residue or food particles, clean them with a cocktail stick and rinse the arm through. Look closely along the full length of the arm for hairline cracks, split seams or missing end caps, and check the locating collar for wear. If the arm spins freely and the jets are clear but wash results are still poor, check the filter, sump, circulation pump and water inlet before concluding that the spray arm is at fault.

Installation guide: 1. Switch off and unplug the dishwasher, or isolate the dedicated circuit at the consumer unit, and turn off the water supply. 2. Open the door and remove the lower basket so the base of the tub is clear. 3. Locate the retaining cap, nut or clip that secures the lower spray arm to its support in the centre of the sump. 4. Unscrew or release the retaining fixing, taking care not to drop it into the sump. 5. Lift the old spray arm straight up and off its support, noting how the locating collar sits. 6. Clean the support hub and the surrounding sump area, removing any scale, grease or debris. 7. Position the new spray arm over the support, aligning the locating collar correctly, and lower it into place. 8. Refit the retaining cap, nut or clip and tighten it only enough to hold the arm securely while still allowing it to spin. 9. Spin the arm by hand to confirm it rotates freely and does not catch on the basket runners or tub. 10. Restore the power and water, run a short cycle and check that the arm rotates and that wash results are even across the lower basket.

Safety note: Always isolate the electrical supply before working inside a dishwasher, as water and mains voltage are present in the same appliance. Residual water in the sump and filter can be hot and may contain detergent, so allow the machine to cool and take care when reaching into the base. Do not force the spray arm onto its support, as the locating collar can crack if it is pushed on at an angle. Where the dishwasher is integrated beneath a worktop, take care not to trap the spray arm or basket runners when refitting the lower basket.
