Description

The water filter cartridge removes impurities from the water supply before it reaches the dispenser tap and the ice maker.

It sits in a housing at the top corner of the fridge compartment on the models listed here, and it is a twist-fit cartridge that locks into place with a quarter turn.

Inside the cartridge is a block of activated carbon and a mechanical filtration membrane; together, they remove chlorine and its associated taste and odour, sediment and particulate matter, lead and other heavy metals, and a range of trace contaminants, including pharmaceuticals and microplastics. The result is clear, fresh-tasting water and ice, plus protection for the dispenser valve, water lines, and ice maker from the scale and sediment that would otherwise build up inside them.

A water filter is a consumable, and it degrades gradually rather than failing suddenly. The first sign is usually a change in the taste or smell of the water, or a slow reduction in the flow rate at the dispenser as the carbon block becomes saturated and the membrane clogs. In hard water areas, this happens faster because limescale collects in the cartridge. Continuing to use a spent filter means the water is no longer being properly treated, and the dispenser and ice maker are left unprotected from scale and sediment.

Frost in an unheated outbuilding and high water pressure can also damage the filter housing and cartridge, causing the cartridge to crack and leak. Replacing the filter at the recommended interval keeps the water quality high, the flow rate steady and the dispenser and ice maker working as they should.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Genuine Hisense fridge water filter cartridge, twist-fit type for top-mounted internal housings. Capacity 757 litres (200 gallons), service life 6 months. Flow rate 1.9 litres per minute. Operating pressure 207–862 kPa (30–125 psi). Operating temperature 1–38 °C. Certified to NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine taste and odour and particulate reduction, NSF/ANSI 53 for lead, cysts, mercury and other health-related contaminants, and NSF/ANSI 401 for emerging compounds including pharmaceuticals and microplastics. Product code: 2420580.

Fitment guidance: This filter is compatible with the Hisense models listed below. The model number is found on the rating plate, which is normally located inside the fridge compartment on the left-hand wall, behind the salad crisper, or on the rear of the cabinet. Match the complete model number exactly. The filter is located in the top corner of the fridge compartment and is removed by turning it a quarter turn counter-clockwise and pulling it out of the housing. Before ordering, confirm that your appliance uses the twist-fit internal cartridge and not an inline filter or a different housing type, as Hisense produces several filter designs across its ranges.

Diagnostic tip: If the dispenser flow has slowed noticeably, or the water tastes or smells unpleasant, the filter is the first component to check. Remove the cartridge and inspect the housing and the cartridge for cracks, scale or debris. If the filter has been in use for more than six months, replace it regardless of symptoms. If the dispenser flow is still poor with a new filter fitted, check the water supply pressure and the condition of the water line and the dispenser valve. If the filter housing itself is cracked or leaking, the housing will need to be replaced rather than the cartridge. A filter that has frozen, usually because the appliance is in an unheated space, will be cracked and must be replaced.

Installation guide: 1. Switch off the water supply to the appliance at the isolation valve or the mains stopcock. 2. Open the fridge door and locate the filter housing in the top corner of the compartment. 3. Turn the old cartridge approximately a quarter turn counter-clockwise until it releases, then pull it out of the housing. 4. Have a towel or shallow container ready, as a small amount of water will escape when the cartridge is removed. 5. Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge. 6. Line up the ports on the top of the new filter with the ports in the housing and insert it gently. 7. Turn the cartridge approximately a quarter turn clockwise until it stops and locks into place. 8. Restore the water supply and check the housing and cartridge for leaks. 9. Flush the system by dispensing around 5 minutes of water through the dispenser to clear any carbon fines. 10. Reset the filter indicator on the control panel by pressing and holding the appropriate button combination for your model, usually the Ice On/Off button for 3 seconds.

Safety note: Always turn off the water supply before removing the filter cartridge. Do not use the appliance with the filter housing empty or the cartridge loose, as water will leak. This filter is for cold water only and must not be used with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection. Dispose of the spent cartridge responsibly. If the filter has frozen, do not attempt to thaw and reuse it, as the internal membrane will have been damaged.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the filter is the likely culprit.

1
Water Tastes Or Smells Unpleasant
The dispensed water has a chlorine, metallic or stale taste, or an odd smell, even though it was fine previously. This is the most common sign that the activated carbon in the filter is saturated and no longer removing taste and odour compounds. Replace the filter if it has been in use for more than six months, or sooner if the change in taste is noticeable.
2
The Filter Indicator Light Blinks Or Illuminates
The control panel shows the filter status icon lit or blinking, indicating that the filter has reached the end of its rated life. On most models the icon begins to flash when the filter is near the end of its service life, and stays on when replacement is due. Reset the indicator after fitting the new filter by pressing and holding the appropriate button combination for your model.
3
The Dispenser Flow Has Slowed Noticeably
Water comes out of the dispenser much more slowly than it used to, or it dribbles rather than flowing. This is usually caused by the filter membrane becoming clogged with sediment and scale, which restricts the flow. Replace the filter, and if the flow is still poor with a new cartridge fitted, check the water supply pressure and the condition of the water line.
4
Water Leaks From The Filter Housing
Water is visible around the filter housing, dripping into the fridge or pooling underneath the cartridge. This can be caused by a cartridge that has not been seated properly, a worn or damaged O-ring seal, or a cracked housing. Remove the cartridge and check the seal and the housing for damage, and refit the cartridge carefully to confirm it seats squarely.
5
The Cartridge Is Cracked Or Has Frozen
The cartridge shows visible cracks, or the appliance has been in an unheated space and the filter has frozen. Freezing expands the water inside the cartridge and damages the internal membrane, so the filter will not work correctly even after thawing. A cracked or frozen cartridge must be replaced, and the housing should also be checked for damage.
6
The Ice Maker Is Producing Cloudy Or Slow Ice
Ice cubes come out cloudy, small, or take longer to form than they used to. A spent or clogged filter reduces the flow of water to the ice maker, so the mould is filled slowly and the ice quality suffers. Replace the filter, and if the ice is still poor, check the ice maker and the water supply line.
7
The Filter Cartridge Will Not Lock Into Place
The new cartridge does not turn the full quarter turn required to lock it into the housing, or it turns but does not feel secure. This is usually caused by the cartridge not being aligned correctly with the housing ports, or by a housing that has been damaged. Remove the cartridge, check the alignment, and try again, taking care not to force it.
8
The Dispenser Has Stopped Working Completely
Pressing the dispenser lever produces nothing at all. Check that the water supply is turned on and that the filter is seated correctly, as a cartridge that is not locked in will block the water flow. If the filter is new and correctly fitted but the dispenser still does not work, the fault may lie with the dispenser switch, the water valve or the control board rather than the filter.
9
Water Is Cloudy Or Milky Immediately After Fitting A New Filter
The first few glasses of water after a new cartridge is fitted look cloudy or milky. This is simply air bubbles and fine carbon particles being flushed out of the new filter, and it is not a fault. Flush the system for around five minutes as described in the installation guide, and the water will run clear.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Confirm your full model number against the compatibility list above.
  • Check when the filter was last replaced — six months is the recommended interval.
  • Inspect the cartridge and housing for cracks, scale or damage.
  • Confirm the water supply is turned on and the isolation valve is fully open.
  • Check the water supply pressure is within the specified range.
  • If the dispenser still does not work with a new filter, check the water valve and dispenser switch before ordering further parts.

Disclaimer: The fault codes and symptoms listed above are intended as a general guide to assist with diagnosis. They cannot be taken as a definitive diagnosis of any particular problem, and other components may produce similar symptoms. Always confirm the fault with proper testing before ordering parts.

Fridge Water Filters Water Filtration & Fridge Spares

Fridge
Water Filters

Fridge water filters are critical for clean drinking water. Cheap, mass-produced filters are often low quality and can break, contaminating your fridge system. We only offer reliable, high-quality filters to ensure safety and performance.

Choosing The Correct Filter

Fridge water filters can be internal or external. External filters are usually universal (e.g., WSF100 cartridges), while internal filters may be brand-specific. Many filters from one brand are compatible with others, allowing you to save money without sacrificing quality.

Always check the make, model, or even a photo of the existing filter to ensure you get the correct replacement.
