Replacement oven door seal – compatible with Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Balay and Constructa as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your oven model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

Restore your oven's heat retention and cooking performance with this genuine oven door seal.

As an original component, it matches the seal fitted at the factory, including profile, heat resistance, and clip positioning.

This is the genuine BSH door seal, manufactured from glass silk fibres specifically for pyrolytic ovens. Standard rubber seals disintegrate at the temperatures reached during the self-cleaning cycle (400–500°C). This seal is rated for continuous exposure up to 500°C and maintains its flexibility and sealing performance through repeated pyrolysis cycles.

The seal runs around the entire perimeter of the oven opening and forms a tight barrier when the door is closed, preventing hot air from escaping and ensuring the cavity maintains a stable, even temperature throughout the cooking cycle. Manufactured from heat-resistant glass silk fibres, it is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures of pyrolytic cleaning cycles as well as everyday baking and roasting.

This oven door seal fits more models than listed, so if your appliance isn't shown, contact our parts advisors with your full model number before ordering. The seal comes complete with the metal clips needed to fit into the embedded channel on the oven frame.

Oven door seals deteriorate over time through constant exposure to high heat, steam and the mechanical stress of the door opening and closing. Common signs of failure include visible cracks, splits, or flattening of the rubber; heat escaping around the door during use; longer cooking times; uneven baking results; and burnt marks around the door frame. A worn seal forces the oven to work harder to maintain temperature, wasting energy and affecting cooking consistency.

Replacing the seal restores the original heat retention and is a straightforward DIY repair that requires no specialist tools.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the part is the likely culprit.

1
Heat Escaping Around the Oven Door
The most immediate and noticeable sign of a failed seal. Hot air can be felt leaking around the edges of the door during operation, particularly at the corners and along the top edge. The cabinets or surfaces adjacent to the oven may also become noticeably warm, and the kitchen itself may feel hotter than usual during long cooking sessions.
2
Uneven Cooking or Longer Baking Times
When the seal is compromised, the oven struggles to maintain a stable temperature. Food may take longer to cook than the recipe suggests, or may brown unevenly across the shelf. Baked goods such as cakes and bread may rise inconsistently or dry out on one side while remaining undercooked on the other.
3
Visible Cracks, Splits or Flattening of the Seal
A thorough visual inspection will often reveal the problem. Look for fractures, rips, fraying or sections where the seal has flattened and lost its elasticity. The corners of the gasket are typically the first areas to show wear, as they are subjected to the most mechanical stress each time the door is closed.
4
Food Residue or Burnt Marks Around the Door Frame
Escaping heat and steam can cause food particles and grease to bake onto the oven frame, creating dark, burnt marks around the door opening. These marks are difficult to clean and, if left untreated, can become permanent. They are a reliable indicator that the seal is no longer doing its job effectively.
5
Oven Light Stays On or Flickers
On models where the oven light is operated by a door switch, a worn seal may prevent the door from pressing the switch correctly. This can cause the light to remain on when the door is closed, or to flicker intermittently. While this is not a fault with the seal itself, a seal that has lost its thickness can cause the door to sit slightly differently and affect switch operation.
6
Increased Energy Consumption
A faulty seal forces the oven to work harder to reach and maintain the set temperature. The heating elements cycle more frequently, and the appliance uses more electricity to compensate for the constant heat loss. This is a less obvious symptom but one that becomes apparent over time through higher energy bills and longer preheat times.
7
Seal Detached from the Oven Frame
The metal clips that hold the seal in the embedded channel can loosen over time, particularly if the seal has been removed and refitted several times. A seal that has come away from the frame at one or more points will not form a complete barrier, allowing heat to escape through the gap. Check that all clips are fully seated before assuming the seal itself has failed.

Fitment Guidance

This oven door seal is compatible with the Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Balay and Constructa oven models listed in the compatibility matrix above. It fits more models than are listed, so if your appliance is not shown, contact our parts advisors with your full model number before ordering.

  • The model number (E-Nr) is usually found on a rating plate on the inner edge of the oven door frame, on the rear panel, or behind the control panel.
  • For Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Balay and Constructa models, record both the model number and the FD production number before ordering.
  • Compare the full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Check that the embedded channel on your oven frame matches the clip arrangement on this replacement seal.
  • If your model is not listed, contact our parts advisors with your full model number, as this seal fits more models than are shown.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the seal has failed, carry out these checks to rule out other causes. The paper test is the most reliable method and requires no tools.

  • Paper test: Close the oven door on a sheet of paper at four points around the frame — one in each corner. Pull the paper out with a steady, even pull. Moderate resistance indicates a good seal. If the paper slides out with no resistance at any point, the seal has lost compression in that area.
  • Torch test: Place a bright torch inside the cold oven, pointing at the closed door. Turn off the room lights and look for light escaping around the door edges. Any visible light indicates a gap in the seal.
  • Visual inspection: Examine the seal along its full length for cracks, splits, flattening or fraying. Pay particular attention to the corners, which wear first.
  • Clip check: Confirm that all metal clips are fully seated in the embedded channel on the oven frame. A seal that has come away at one point will not seal correctly even if the material itself is sound.
  • Hinge check: Open and close the door slowly and observe whether it sits flush against the frame. A door that is misaligned due to worn hinges can prevent even a new seal from making proper contact.
  • Clean the seal area: Remove any food debris or grease from the seal and the frame. Debris trapped between the seal and the frame can create gaps that mimic a failed seal.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure for replacing an oven door seal. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance manual where available.

  1. Isolate the appliance from the electrical supply and allow the oven to cool completely.
  2. Open the oven door fully to access the seal around the frame.
  3. Starting at one corner, gently prise the old seal away from the embedded channel. Work around the frame, releasing each metal clip in turn until the seal is completely free.
  4. Clean the embedded channel and the surrounding frame, removing any food debris, grease or old seal residue.
  5. Unpack the new seal and lay it flat to allow it to relax. Identify the metal clips attached to the seal.
  6. Starting at the top corner, press the first clip into the embedded channel. Work around the frame, pressing each clip firmly into place.
  7. Ensure the seal is flush against the frame and does not twist or bunch at any point. Make any adjustments necessary so the seal sits straight and even.
  8. Close the door gently and check that it meets the seal evenly along the full perimeter.
  9. Restore the electrical supply and run a short heating cycle to confirm that the seal is holding heat correctly.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Verify your full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • If your model is not listed, contact our parts advisors with your full model number, as this seal fits more models than are shown.
  • Check that the embedded channel on your oven frame matches the clip arrangement on this replacement seal.
  • Perform the paper test at four points around the door to confirm the seal has lost compression.
  • Inspect the door hinges for wear or misalignment, as a misaligned door can prevent even a new seal from working correctly.
  • Contact our parts advisors if any doubt remains about fitment before placing your order.

Oven & Cooker Spares

Oven
Door Seals

Oven door seals (often thought of as rubber) are actually engineered from heat-resistant materials. They prevent heat from escaping and ensure even cooking.

Over time, oven door seals can become worn, hardened, or damaged through natural wear and tear, mechanical damage, or improper use. When this happens, heat escapes from the oven cavity, leading to uneven cooking, longer preheat times, higher energy bills, and potentially scorch marks on adjacent kitchen cabinetry. Replacing a worn or faulty door seal is the most effective way to restore your cooker or oven to optimal performance.

Finding & Replacing Oven Door Seals

Oven door seals vary greatly by model, cavity type, and fixing points. Visual identification alone is rarely enough and often leads to errors — using your oven or cooker model number is critical to avoid ordering the wrong seal. If your model isn't listed above or you're unsure about compatibility, contact our spare parts team with your appliance make, model, and serial number, and we'll confirm the correct part for you.

Regular checks of the seal help maintain proper heat retention. If the seal is damaged or worn, replacing it promptly ensures even cooking, prevents burns to cabinetry, and maintains appliance efficiency.

Care & Maintenance

To extend the life of your oven door seal:

  • Clean the seal regularly using a non-abrasive sponge and lukewarm water

  • Avoid using abrasive cleaning products or metal scouring pads, which can damage the seal surface

  • The seal should remain soft and flexible (except on pyrolitic models using woven door seals)

  • Check the seal periodically for signs of wear or damage
