Genuine cooling fan control thermostat with resistor – identical to the original factory-fitted component for Bosch, Neff and Siemens ovens & cookers as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your oven & cooker model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

This is a genuine Bosch Group cooling fan control thermostat with an integrated resistor, supplied as the same component fitted at the factory, so it mounts on the original fixing points, connects to the existing wiring harness, and controls the cooling fan exactly as the original did.

The cooling fan sits at the rear or top of the oven for one reason: to keep the control panel, fascia, and surrounding cabinetry cool. Without it, the heat that builds up around the oven body during cooking has nowhere to go, and it gradually cooks the electronics inside the appliance.

This thermostat is what triggers the fan. It senses the temperature inside the cooling duct and closes to turn on the fan when the appliance warms up, then opens again as the temperature drops. The integrated resistor provides stepped fan speeds, allowing the fan to run slower at lower temperatures and at full speed when the oven is genuinely hot. When the thermostat fails, the fan either stops running altogether — which is the most common failure and the one that does the most long-term damage — or it runs continuously even when the oven is cold.

This thermostat is used across several Bosch, Neff, and Siemens oven ranges that share the same cooling platform, which is why the same component appears across multiple brands. Because it is designed for a specific switching temperature, mounting profile, and connector layout, it is not interchangeable with visually similar thermostats from other ranges, so confirm the full model number against the compatibility list before ordering.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Genuine cooling fan control thermostat with integrated resistor. Product code: 10006705. Type: temperature-operated switch for the oven cooling fan circuit. Function: switches the cooling fan on when the duct temperature rises and off when the appliance cools; integrated resistor provides stepped fan speed. Supply: 220–240V AC.

Safety note: Isolate the appliance from the mains supply before starting work and allow the oven to cool completely. The thermostat operates at mains voltage and connects directly to the appliance wiring harness — never work on it while the appliance is connected to the power. The cooling duct and thermostat sit close to the oven body and may still be hot long after the oven itself has cooled. Wear insulated gloves and take care around sharp metal edges inside the appliance casing. Before fitting, confirm the replacement matches the original in switching temperature, connector layout, and mounting bracket, and never force a connector that does not seat easily, as this can damage both the thermostat and the appliance harness.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following symptoms are commonly reported when a cooling fan control thermostat begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the thermostat is the likely culprit.

1
THE COOLING FAN NEVER RUNS AT ALL
The most common and most damaging failure. The thermostat fails open and never closes, so the fan never receives power and the duct temperature continues to rise unchecked. Everything appears to work from the outside — the oven heats, the elements cycle and the display is normal — but the fascia and the control electronics behind it are being cooked from the inside.
2
FAN RUNS CONTINUOUSLY EVEN WHEN THE OVEN IS COLD
The opposite failure. The thermostat contacts weld closed or stick, so the fan runs from the moment the appliance is powered and never switches off. This drains power, wears out the fan motor prematurely and is often the first sign that the thermostat has failed rather than the fan itself.
3
FAN RUNS AT ONE SPEED ONLY
The integrated resistor is what gives the cooling fan a stepped speed — reduced speed at low duct temperatures, full speed when the appliance is genuinely hot. If the resistor has failed open, the fan runs at full speed from the moment it comes on, or not at all. If it has failed short, the resistor is bypassed and the fan only ever runs at one speed regardless of temperature.
4
THE FASCIA, HANDLE OR CONTROL PANEL FEELS UNUSUALLY HOT
With the cooling fan out of action, heat builds up behind the fascia instead of being drawn away. The door handle, control knobs and the surrounding cabinetry will all feel noticeably warmer than they should. This is both a warning that the thermostat has failed and a risk to the electronics behind the panel, which are not designed to operate at sustained high temperatures.
5
THE OVEN CUTS OUT DURING A LONG BAKE
Many Bosch Group ovens include a thermal cut-out in the cooling circuit as a safety backup. If the cooling fan is not running and the internal temperature of the appliance climbs too high, the cut-out trips and shuts the oven down. This is often reported as the oven turning itself off partway through a long bake with no obvious cause.
6
DISPLAY OR CONTROL PANEL BEHAVING ERRATICALLY WHEN HOT
Overheating of the control area is a known cause of intermittent faults in the display, touch panel and control board. A display that dims, flickers, becomes unresponsive or shows garbled segments after the oven has been running for a while may be reacting to heat that the cooling fan should have carried away.
7
BURNT SMELL OR DISCOLOURATION INSIDE THE APPLIANCE
Sustained high temperatures around the control area can cause the insulation on wiring, connector housings and internal components to discolour or give off a faint acrid smell. This is a warning that heat is not being managed properly and that the cooling circuit needs to be checked without delay.
8
FAN STAYS ON LONG AFTER THE OVEN HAS COOLED
A short run-on after cooking is normal, but a fan that keeps running for a very long time after the oven has clearly cooled suggests the thermostat is no longer opening correctly. Left unrepaired, this will wear out the fan motor and add unnecessary running costs to every cooking session.

Fitment Guidance

This part is compatible only with the models listed in the compatibility matrix above. Even if a part looks visually identical, internal specifications can differ.

  • Confirm your full model number against the Bosch, Neff and Siemens lists on this page before ordering, as thermostats vary in switching temperature, mounting profile and connector layout between ranges that otherwise look similar.
  • Compare the new thermostat against the original for overall size, switching temperature marking, bracket shape and connector pin layout before removing the old one.
  • The resistor is part of the assembly and not a separate item — if the resistor alone has failed, the complete thermostat and resistor unit must be replaced.
  • Inspect the cooling fan motor and ducting while the thermostat is removed. A fan motor that has seized or a duct that has been blocked will cause a replacement thermostat to fail prematurely.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the part has failed, carry out these checks to rule out other causes.

  • CONFIRM THE FAN MOTOR FIRST: A fan that never runs may have a failed motor rather than a failed thermostat. With the appliance isolated, check the fan motor windings for continuity before assuming the thermostat is at fault.
  • TEST THE THERMOSTAT FOR CONTINUITY: With the appliance isolated, disconnect the thermostat and measure continuity across its terminals. At room temperature it should read open; when warmed gently with a hairdryer it should close. No change confirms the thermostat has failed.
  • CHECK THE RESISTOR: The integrated resistor should read a finite value across its terminals. An infinite reading confirms the resistor has failed open, which will stop the fan from reaching its second speed.
  • INSPECT THE WIRING AND CONNECTOR: A loose or corroded connector can mimic a failed thermostat. Check that the plug is fully seated and that no pins are bent, discoloured or showing signs of heat damage.
  • CHECK THE DUCTING AND VENTILATION: A blocked or restricted cooling duct will make the appliance overheat even with a working thermostat and fan. Confirm that the duct is clear and that the ventilation slots around the appliance are not obstructed before ordering parts.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance service manual where available.

  1. Isolate the appliance from the mains supply and allow the oven to cool completely before starting work.
  2. Where practical, pull the appliance forward from the housing to give clear access to the rear, taking care not to strain the electrical connections.
  3. Remove the rear panel or the top cover of the appliance, following the manufacturer's procedure, to gain access to the cooling duct and thermostat.
  4. Take a photograph of the thermostat and its wiring before removal, noting which connector goes to which terminal and how the thermostat is mounted on the duct bracket.
  5. Disconnect the electrical plug from the thermostat, then remove the fixing screws or clips holding it to the duct bracket.
  6. Clean any dust, grease or debris from the duct bracket and the surrounding area, checking that the duct itself is clear of obstructions.
  7. Fit the new thermostat onto the bracket and reconnect the electrical plug. Check that the connector is fully seated and that no pins are bent.
  8. Refit the rear or top panel, restore the power and run the oven through a short heating cycle to confirm that the cooling fan starts when the appliance warms up and stops again once it has cooled.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Locate the model number on the rating plate, usually found around the oven door frame or on the rear of the appliance.
  • Match the full model number, including the suffix after the forward slash, against the Bosch, Neff and Siemens lists above.
  • Confirm the thermostat is not confused with the cooling fan motor, as these are two separate parts with similar symptoms.
  • Check the fan motor, ducting and wiring harness for faults, as these can cause a replacement thermostat to fail in the same way.
  • Verify your full model number with our team if anything is unclear — a quick check avoids an unnecessary return.

Disclaimer: The fault codes and symptoms listed above are intended as a general guide to assist with diagnosis. They cannot be taken as a definitive diagnosis of any particular problem, and other components may produce similar symptoms. Always confirm the fault with proper testing before ordering parts.

Precision Control Support

Oven Thermostats.

An oven or cooker thermostat controls the temperature inside the oven cavity by switching power to the element within a +/-10-15% tolerance.

Fault Diagnosis

When a thermostat is faulty, symptoms are typically binary: the oven won’t heat at all, or it constantly heats and fails to cut out, resulting in burnt food. Safety thermostats operate similarly but are preset to a single cut-off temperature to prevent overheating.

Technical Testing

Almost all thermostats “break” the live supply once set temperature is reached. If the oven is overheating, the circuit remains closed regardless of setting. If it won’t heat, the thermostat fails to “make” the circuit to power the element.

!

Electrical Safety Warning

Oven thermostats carry live mains power. They must never be worked on while power is applied to the oven or cooker. Always isolate the appliance from the mains before inspection or replacement.

Sourcing Requirements

When buying a thermostat, precision is crucial. While they often appear identical, they vary significantly in temperature ranges, fitments, and knob offsets.
