Cooker Hood Metal Grease Filter
Replacement metal grease filter – compatible with Smeg models as shown unless advised otherwise
Description
This genuine Smeg metal grease filter is identical to the original fitted at the factory, restoring the first and most important stage of filtration in the cooker hood.
Manufactured from aluminium mesh to the original pattern, it traps the grease particles produced during cooking before they can reach the motor and ducting, protecting the appliance from the long-term build-up that causes unpleasant odours and reduced performance.
Unlike disposable paper filters, this metal filter is designed to last the life of the hood and can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher, making it a sustainable and economical choice for everyday cooking.
This filter is used on the Smeg KSEG58PXE canopy hood, which requires two filters side by side. Even if a filter looks visually similar, the dimensions, frame profile and mesh gauge can differ between hood ranges, so the model number should be confirmed rather than judged by appearance.
Image shows a new filter with the blue protective plastic on it, this should be removed before use.
This filter will only fit the models as shown or as specifically advised and will not fit any others, even if it looks the same. Please take time to confirm your model number before ordering. If you are unsure please don't hesitate to contact us and ask for assistance.
Technical Notes
Specifications: Genuine Smeg metal grease filter; aluminium mesh construction; approx. 195 mm x 424 mm; approx. 130 g; supplied as 1 filter (the hood requires 2); product code 073410880. Alternate part number: 319SM0195. Approximate dimensions and weights are for guidance only and must not be used to identify the part.
Note: Published dimensions vary between sources, with some listing 305 mm x 267 mm. Please measure the existing filter where it is still available, as the most reliable way to confirm fitment is to compare the old part directly.
Safety note: The filter itself has no electrical connections, but the surrounding hood components do. Isolate the cooker hood from the power supply before removing or refitting the filter, and allow the appliance to cool completely. Handle the filter by its frame and avoid bending the mesh, as distorted filters may not seat correctly and can reduce extraction performance.

Common Faults & SymptomsThe following symptoms and filter indicators are commonly reported when a metal grease filter becomes saturated or damaged. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the filter is the likely culprit. 1
Persistent cooking odours in the kitchen
The most obvious sign. Smells that the hood used to clear now linger in the air after cooking, because a grease-clogged filter cannot pass air efficiently and odour molecules are not carried away.
2
Reduced extraction airflow
Even on the highest fan setting, the hood feels weaker than it used to. A clogged grease filter restricts airflow, which also puts extra strain on the motor and can shorten its life.
3
Visible grease build-up on the mesh
The aluminium mesh appears darkened, sticky or clogged with a film of grease that does not rinse away easily. A filter in this condition is no longer able to trap new grease effectively.
4
Solid red filter indicator light
On many Smeg hoods, a solid red LED or pilot lamp indicates that the grease filters need cleaning after a set number of operating hours (often 30 or 100 hours, depending on the model). If the light remains on after cleaning and resetting, the filter may be permanently clogged.
5
Flashing filter indicator or display code
A flashing red indicator or codes such as 'FF' or 'EF' on the display signal that the grease filter needs attention or, on recirculation models, that the charcoal filter also requires replacement. If the alert persists after cleaning and resetting the counter, the grease filter may be beyond cleaning.
6
Visible damage to the filter mesh or frame
Bent frames, torn mesh or holes in the aluminium weave allow grease to bypass the filter entirely. A damaged filter cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
7
Motor noise or straining
The hood motor becomes noticeably louder or labours to pull air. A restricted grease filter forces the motor to work harder, which can lead to overheating and premature failure if not addressed.
8
Greasy film on kitchen surfaces
A sticky residue builds up on walls, cabinets and worktops near the hob. When the grease filter is saturated, grease-laden air can bypass effective filtration and settle on surfaces.
Fitment GuidanceThis filter is compatible only with the Smeg KSEG58PXE model listed in the compatibility matrix above. Even if a filter looks visually similar, the dimensions and frame profile can differ between hood ranges.
Diagnostic TipsBefore concluding that the filter needs replacing, carry out these checks to rule out other causes.
Installation GuideThese steps describe the general procedure. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance service manual where available.
Before Ordering, Check These First
Disclaimer: The fault codes and symptoms listed above are intended as a general guide to assist with diagnosis. They cannot be taken as a definitive diagnosis of any particular problem, and other components may produce similar symptoms. Always confirm the fault with proper testing before ordering parts. |

Cooker Hood Filter Specialist
Cooker Hood
Filters
Cooker hood filters come in two main types: grease filters, which prevent grease entering the motor, and carbon/charcoal filters, which remove odours and protect the motor. All hoods require a grease filter, and non-vented hoods should also have a carbon filter fitted. Regular replacement or cleaning is essential for optimal performance.
Filter Replacement Guidelines
- Grease filters: replace every 1–6 months depending on cooking frequency and type
- Carbon/charcoal filters: replace every 3–6 months for optimal odour removal
- Metal mesh grease filters: clean regularly to prevent blockage or damage
- Replacement frequency depends on cooking habits rather than just manufacturer guidelines
Some cooker hood filters are highly model-specific. Images and sizes are for illustration only. Always check compatibility with your specific model to ensure correct fit and performance.
Important: Do not rely solely on images, as filters can appear identical but be incompatible. Always refer to model specifications and contact us if unsure.

Experts In
Smeg Spare Parts.
Smeg appliances are design icons, but their internal components are often shared with other brands. We use this overlap to save you money.
The Alternative Part Advantage
Smeg parts are frequently used across multiple brands. We identify when an "alternative" part is actually the exact same component from the same factory, just without the Smeg-branded packaging. This allows us to offer some of the lowest prices in the UK.
Fast Dispatch
Most common Smeg spares are stocked in the UK and ready for quick dispatch.
Specialist factory orders typically arrive within 7-10 working days, but some may take longer as advised.
Smeg Identification Requirements
Increasingly, Smeg requires the Service Index and Serial Number to determine the exact component revision. We cannot guarantee accuracy without these.
Understanding Smeg "Compatible" Spares
While some "pattern" parts are sometimes low-cost knock-offs, many of our compatible Smeg spares are Equivalent Replacements. That is to say, the same part only in different packaging.
Often, these are the original parts sourced directly from the component manufacturer (like Plaset, Askoll, or EGO) without the Smeg branding on the box.
Let Us Guide You
Trying to fathom which alternative is safe can be a challenge. We will always be honest with you: if a compatible part is high quality, we'll offer you both the original and the saving. If it's junk, we won't sell it.
