Replacement cooker hood carbon filter – compatible with Bosch as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your cooker hood model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

A genuine BSH replacement carbon filter for compatible Bosch cooker hoods, designed to remove cooking odours, smoke and grease particles from the air in recirculation mode.

As an original BSH component, it matches the factory-fitted filter in diameter, depth, and carbon granulate density. The filter is filled with activated carbon, which traps odour molecules and airborne grease as air passes through the hood. Manufactured from durable, food-safe materials, it is designed to withstand the heat and humidity of everyday cooking without losing its filtration properties.

Carbon filters are consumable components that become saturated over time. As they trap grease and odours, their filtration efficiency drops, so you must replace them to maintain the hood's performance. Common signs that a filter needs replacing include lingering cooking odours, a greasy film on kitchen surfaces, reduced airflow from the hood, and visible dirt or discolouration on the filter itself. In most cases, replace carbon filters every 6 to 12 months, depending on usage. Fitting a new carbon filter restores the hood's ability to remove odours and keeps the kitchen air fresh.

This carbon filter will only fit the models shown or specifically advised and will not fit any others, even if they look the same; they probably won't, as several look alike but aren't compatible. Please take time to ensure this is correct before ordering. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to contact us and ask for assistance.

Technical Notes

Specifications: Genuine BSH cooker hood carbon filter. Dimensions: 203 x 28 mm (outer diameter 205 mm, height 30 mm). Material: activated carbon granulate. Weight: approximately 0.17 kg.

Safety note: This filter is a consumable component and should be replaced at regular intervals to maintain hood performance. Always isolate the appliance from the electrical supply before beginning any work. Allow the hood to cool and the grease to solidify before handling the old filter, as hot grease can cause burns. Wear gloves when removing the filter, as edges may be sharp and the old filter may be heavily soiled with grease and carbon particles. Carbon filters cannot be washed or regenerated and must be replaced.

Fitment guidance: This carbon filter fits only the Bosch cooker hood models listed in the compatibility matrix below. Siemens and Neff models are shown as TBC — please check your model number with our team to confirm fitment. Model numbers can be found on a rating plate on the underside of the hood or on the inner edge of the chimney section.

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following fault codes and symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the part is the likely culprit.

1
Cooking Odours Linger in the Kitchen
The most common symptom of a saturated carbon filter. Strong cooking smells — particularly from frying, grilling or strong spices — remain in the air long after cooking has finished. This happens when the activated carbon granulate has adsorbed all the odour molecules it can hold, and new odours pass straight through the filter without being trapped. Replacing the filter is the only effective solution.
2
Reduced Airflow or Weak Extraction
The hood runs but the extraction feels weak. A clogged carbon filter restricts the flow of air through the hood, so even at full speed the performance is noticeably reduced. This can also put extra strain on the motor. If the airflow improves significantly after removing the filter, the filter is the likely cause rather than the motor.
3
Greasy Film on Kitchen Surfaces
A fine layer of grease settles on worktops, cabinets and walls near the cooker. When the carbon filter is saturated, it can no longer trap airborne grease particles, and they are recirculated back into the room. This is both a cleaning problem and a sign that the filter needs replacing. Regular cleaning of surfaces will not solve the issue while the filter remains saturated.
4
Rattling or Vibrating Noise From the Hood
A worn or damaged carbon filter can break apart, allowing loose carbon particles to rattle inside the hood housing. The noise may be intermittent at first, becoming more consistent as the filter degrades. This is a clear sign that the filter has reached the end of its service life and should be replaced. Do not attempt to reuse a filter that is shedding carbon particles.
5
Visible Dirt, Discolouration or Saturation on the Filter
Remove the filter and inspect it in good light. A saturated filter will appear dark, greasy or uniformly discoloured. Carbon filters cannot be washed or regenerated — once the activated carbon is saturated, it is spent. If the filter looks dirty or has lost its original colour, replacement is the correct course of action.
6
Filter Signal Flashing (Bosch Hoods with Indicator)
On Bosch hoods fitted with a filter saturation indicator, a flashing LED or an alternating symbol display indicates that the carbon filter needs to be replaced. The signal typically activates after a set number of operating hours. If the signal persists after replacing the filter and resetting the indicator, the filter may not be seated correctly.
7
Hood Works Normally but Smells Linger
The hood appears to be functioning correctly — the fan runs, the lights work, the controls respond — but cooking odours still linger in the kitchen. This is a classic indication that the carbon filter is saturated and no longer trapping odours. A clogged filter can reduce the product's efficiency and may cause unwanted smells. Replacing the carbon filter resolves the issue.
8
Increased Noise or Whistling From the Hood
A saturated carbon filter can cause the hood to become noisy, producing a whistling or high-pitched sound as air is forced through the restricted filter material. Carbon filters that wear out can break apart and create rattling sounds similar to small stones shaking inside the hood. If the noise disappears when the filter is removed, the filter is the cause.
9
Visible Damage Like Cracks or Tears in the Filter
Inspect the filter for physical damage. Cracks, tears or broken sections allow air to bypass the activated carbon entirely, making the filter ineffective. A damaged filter should be replaced immediately, as it will not trap odours or grease and may allow carbon particles to escape into the hood and kitchen.
10
Excessive Condensation or Dripping From the Hood
A saturated filter can restrict airflow enough to cause condensation to form inside the hood, which may then drip onto the hob. This is more common in kitchens with high humidity or when cooking with large pans of boiling water. If the filter is old and the hood is dripping, replacing the filter and cleaning the grease filter should resolve the problem.

Fitment Guidance

This carbon filter is compatible only with the Bosch cooker hood models listed in the compatibility matrix above. Siemens and Neff models are shown as TBC. Even if a filter looks visually similar, the dimensions can differ between models, so a part that appears to fit may not seal correctly or may allow air to bypass the carbon. There are several filters that look alike yet are not interchangeable.

  • The model number is usually found on a rating plate on the underside of the hood or on the inner edge of the chimney section.
  • For integrated or built-in hoods, the rating plate may be located behind the grease filter or on the side of the motor housing.
  • Compare the full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Check that the dimensions of your existing filter (203 x 28 mm) match this replacement before ordering.
  • For Siemens and Neff models shown as TBC, please check your model number with our team to confirm fitment before ordering.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the filter needs replacing, carry out these checks to rule out other causes. No specialist tools are required.

  • Visual inspection: Remove the filter and examine it in good light. A saturated filter will appear dark, greasy or uniformly discoloured. Cracks, tears or broken sections are clear signs of damage.
  • Odour test: After cooking, check whether odours linger in the kitchen. If the hood is running but smells remain, the carbon filter is likely saturated and no longer trapping odour molecules.
  • Airflow test: Hold a piece of tissue paper against the underside of the hood while it is running at full speed. If the tissue is barely held, the filter may be restricting airflow. Compare with the airflow when the filter is removed.
  • Grease filter check: Confirm that the metal grease filter is clean and correctly fitted. A clogged grease filter will also restrict airflow and reduce performance, even if the carbon filter is new.
  • Replacement interval check: Carbon filters should be replaced every 6 to 12 months depending on usage. If the filter has been in service longer than this, replacement is the correct course of action regardless of visible condition.
  • Noise check: If the hood has become noisy, remove the carbon filter and run the hood. If the noise disappears, the filter is the cause. If the noise remains, the motor or impeller may be at fault.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure for replacing a cooker hood carbon filter. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance manual where available.

  1. Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply.
  2. Remove the metal grease filter from the underside of the hood to gain access to the carbon filter. The grease filter is usually held in place by a spring clip or retaining tabs.
  3. Locate the carbon filter. It is usually mounted on the motor housing or at the air intake, and is held in place by a bayonet fitting or retaining clips.
  4. Release the old carbon filter by turning it anti-clockwise or pressing the retaining tabs, depending on the model. On some hoods, the carbon filters are located at both ends of the motor.
  5. Withdraw the old filter and dispose of it safely. Carbon filters cannot be washed or regenerated — do not attempt to clean and reuse it.
  6. Clean the filter housing and surrounding area with a degreasing cleaner, removing any grease that has accumulated.
  7. Position the new carbon filter in the housing, aligning the fitting with the corresponding slots or clips.
  8. Secure the new filter in place by turning it clockwise or pressing it until it clicks into position. Ensure it is fully seated.
  9. Refit the metal grease filter and secure it with the original clips or tabs.
  10. Restore the mains supply and run the hood at each speed setting to confirm that extraction is smooth and no vibration or rattling is present.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Verify your full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Check that the dimensions of your existing filter (203 x 28 mm) match this replacement.
  • Confirm whether your model is listed as TBC (Siemens, Neff) — if so, contact us with your full model details to confirm fitment.
  • Inspect the existing filter for visible dirt, discolouration or damage before ordering a replacement.
  • Remember that carbon filters cannot be washed or regenerated and must be replaced at regular intervals.
  • Contact our parts advisors if any doubt remains about fitment before placing your order.

Cooker Hood
Filters

Cooker hood filters come in two main types: grease filters, which prevent grease entering the motor, and carbon/charcoal filters, which remove odours and protect the motor. All hoods require a grease filter, and non-vented hoods should also have a carbon filter fitted. Regular replacement or cleaning is essential for optimal performance.

Filter Replacement Guidelines

  • Grease filters: replace every 1–6 months depending on cooking frequency and type
  • Carbon/charcoal filters: replace every 3–6 months for optimal odour removal
  • Metal mesh grease filters: clean regularly to prevent blockage or damage
  • Replacement frequency depends on cooking habits rather than just manufacturer guidelines

Some cooker hood filters are highly model-specific. Images and sizes are for illustration only. Always check compatibility with your specific model to ensure correct fit and performance.

Important: Do not rely solely on images, as filters can appear identical but be incompatible. Always refer to model specifications and contact us if unsure.
