Replacement washing machine drain pump – compatible with Bosch, Neff and Siemens as shown unless advised otherwise

Check your washing machine model number to ensure a guaranteed fit.

Description

A genuine drain pump that removes the used water from the drum at the end of each wash and rinse cycle.

This pump fits more models than shown, it is used in over 1100 models in the WAV, WAX, WM14, and WM16 series

As an original Bosch, Neff, and Siemens component, it matches the pump fitted at the factory, with the same flow rate, impeller design, and electrical characteristics. A genuine pump preserves the machine's drain timing and ensures the pressure switch and control module continue to receive the expected signals throughout the cycle.

Drain pumps commonly fail because lint, hair, and small objects build up around the impeller, or because the bearings seize after years of use. Typical symptoms include water standing in the drum at the end of a programme, a humming noise with no drainage, repeated drain error codes, and a filter housing that fills with water more slowly than usual. Because a blocked filter or kinked hose can cause the same symptoms, replace the pump only after you've ruled out these possibilities.

This part is only known to fit the models shown or as advised and will not fit any others because, even if it looks the same, it probably won't. Several may look alike but not be; please take time to confirm this is correct before ordering. If you are unsure, please don't hesitate to contact us and ask for assistance.

Technical Notes

Common Faults & Symptoms

The following fault codes and symptoms are commonly reported when this part begins to fail. Use this as a diagnostic guide before ordering a replacement — if more than one of these is present, the part is the likely culprit.

1
Error Code E18 / F18 — Drain Fault
Displayed by Bosch, Neff and Siemens washing machines when the appliance fails to drain within the expected time. Water may remain standing in the drum at the end of the cycle. E18 is one of the most common codes associated with a failing or blocked drain pump, but a blocked filter or kinked hose can trigger the same code, so these should be checked first.
2
Error Code E02 — Drain Time Exceeded
On some Bosch and Siemens models, E02 indicates that the drain stage took longer than the module allows. The machine may attempt to drain several times before shutting down. A pump that is worn but not yet seized often triggers this code intermittently before failing completely.
3
Water Standing in the Drum After the Cycle
The most visible symptom of a failing drain pump. Water remains in the drum at the end of a programme, or drains only partially. In some cases the water drains slowly over several minutes rather than in the usual short burst. This can also indicate a partially blocked filter, so check that first.
4
Humming Noise With No Drainage
The pump motor can be heard running, but no water leaves the drum. This usually indicates that the impeller has broken free from the motor shaft or that debris is jamming the impeller. Isolate the appliance and check the filter housing for foreign objects before ordering a replacement.
5
Silent Pump — No Sound at All
If the machine reaches the drain stage and there is no hum or movement from the pump at all, the motor winding may have failed open-circuit. Confirm with a resistance check across the pump terminals before ordering, and also confirm that the module is supplying voltage to the pump during the drain stage.
6
Grinding or Rattling Noise During Drain
A grinding or rattling sound from the pump area indicates that debris has entered the impeller housing or that the bearings are worn. If the noise is intermittent and accompanied by reduced drainage, a foreign object such as a hair grip, coin or bra wire is the likely cause. The filter housing should be opened and inspected first.
7
Water Leaking From the Pump Housing
A worn pump seal or a distorted housing gasket can allow water to seep from the pump area during the drain stage. This is often visible as a small puddle beneath the machine. If the pump itself is sound, a replacement gasket or seal may be sufficient, but a pump that has been running with a damaged seal is usually close to failure and is best replaced.
8
Cycle Stopping Before the Final Spin
The machine may complete the wash and rinse stages but stop before the final spin, leaving clothes saturated. This is a safety behaviour triggered when the module detects that the drum has not drained. The pump is one of the first components to check when the machine refuses to spin, along with the pressure switch and the sump hose.

Fitment Guidance

This drain pump is compatible only with the Bosch, Neff and Siemens washing machine models listed in the compatibility matrix above. Even if a pump looks visually similar, the flow rate, impeller design and connector layout can differ between models, so a part that appears to fit may not drain correctly.

  • The model number (E-Nr) is usually found on a rating plate on the inner edge of the door, on the rear panel, or behind the detergent drawer.
  • For Bosch, Neff and Siemens models, record both the model number and the FD production number before ordering.
  • Compare the full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Compare the connector shape and the orientation of the outlet spigot on your existing pump with the replacement before fitting.
  • Where the Neff list shows TBC, contact our parts advisors with your model number to confirm fitment before ordering.

Diagnostic Tips

Before concluding that the pump has failed, carry out these checks to rule out other causes. A multimeter is required for the electrical tests.

  • Filter check: Open the filter housing and remove the filter. Clean out any lint, hair, coins or small objects. A blocked filter is the single most common cause of drain faults.
  • Hose check: Confirm that the drain hose is not kinked, crushed or blocked, and that it discharges above the water line without being submerged in standing water.
  • Impeller check: With the pump removed, turn the impeller by hand. It should rotate freely and smoothly. If it is stiff, gritty or does not turn, the pump has failed.
  • Resistance test: Measure the resistance across the pump motor terminals. A reading of approximately 150–250 ohms is typical for a healthy shaded pole motor. An open circuit confirms the winding has failed.
  • Voltage test: During the drain stage, confirm that approximately 230V is present at the pump connector. No voltage indicates a fault at the control module rather than the pump itself.
  • Pressure switch check: A faulty pressure switch can prevent the module from entering the drain stage. If the pump is sound but the machine never attempts to drain, test the pressure switch and its hose.

Installation Guide

These steps describe the general procedure for replacing a washing machine drain pump. The exact sequence varies between models, so always consult the appliance service manual where available.

  1. Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply and turn off the water inlet.
  2. Place a shallow tray and towels beneath the filter housing and open the filter cap slowly to drain residual water into the tray.
  3. Pull the machine forward to gain access. On most Bosch, Neff and Siemens models, the pump is accessed either through the front kick panel or by tilting the machine and removing the base cover.
  4. Remove the screws securing the kick panel or base cover, and set them aside in a safe place.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the pump, pressing the retaining clip if present.
  6. Release the hose clip securing the outlet hose to the pump spigot and pull the hose free, allowing any remaining water to drain into the tray.
  7. Twist the pump anti-clockwise to release it from its bayonet mount, or remove the retaining screws if the pump is screw-fixed. Withdraw the pump and its gasket.
  8. Clean the pump housing and mounting area, removing any lint, debris or old gasket material.
  9. Fit the new gasket and pump, engaging the bayonet mount or refitting the retaining screws. Turn clockwise to lock the pump into position where applicable.
  10. Reconnect the outlet hose and secure it with the hose clip, then reconnect the electrical connector.
  11. Refit the kick panel or base cover, return the appliance to its position, and restore the water and mains supply.
  12. Run a short rinse cycle with no laundry and confirm that the machine drains fully without leaks or error codes.

Before Ordering, Check These First

  • Verify your full model number against the compatibility list above, including any suffix after the forward slash.
  • Clean the filter housing and check the drain hose for kinks or blockages before ordering a replacement pump.
  • Confirm that the impeller turns freely by hand and that the motor winding is not open-circuit.
  • Check that the module is supplying voltage to the pump during the drain stage.
  • If your model appears in the Neff list as TBC, contact our parts advisors with your model number to confirm fitment before ordering.
  • Contact our parts advisors if any doubt remains about fitment before placing your order.

Disclaimer: The fault codes and symptoms listed above are intended as a general guide to assist with diagnosis. They cannot be taken as a definitive diagnosis of any particular problem, and other components may produce similar symptoms. Always confirm the fault with proper testing before ordering parts.

Washing Machine
Drain Pumps

Drain pumps remove water from your washing machine or washer dryer. Faulty pumps can cause leaks, noises, or prevent the machine from draining properly.

About Washing Machine Drain Pumps

The drain pump runs every time your washer drains, meaning it’s in constant use. Cheap pumps without thermal cutouts can be a fire risk, so quality matters. Sludge and detergent residues can block the pump, causing odors or failure.

Common issues include noisy operation, screeching sounds, or complete failure to drain. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the filter monthly, helps prevent these problems and extends pump life.
